Description: Culture has been lost and confused into a mist among the conflicts between the east and west, modern and traditional culture. There is only a kite to carry my hope. This work references Mi-Shi style Landsacpe paintings in the Song Dynasty. The happy land in people's heart has also been ruined, the lost kite is flowing with the wind.
Phantom Landscape III is a development that adapted the compositional approach to paintings used from the Yuan Dynasty onwards of 'leaving white': allowing space and emptiness to open and fill the void.
Yang Yongliang, indulged in traditional Chinese culture and at the same time influenced by contemporary art, is seeking his owm way in the conflict of eastern and western
cultures and is deeply concerned about the faultage in Chinese traditional culture. His artwork demonstrates his experiment on the combination of the two cultures. The forms are patched-up modern
buildings. We wonder if our traditional culture will be found only in phantoms.
